Men’s Health

Men’s health is a specialized area of healthcare that focuses on the physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social factors that contribute to the overall well-being of men. There is no one size fits all approach when it comes to your health. To bring the importance of health into perspective, think of your health in terms of a car. In order to keep your car running in optimal performance, you take your car into the shop to change the oil and rotate the tires every few months. Seeing your health care provider a couple times a year is important in terms of keeping your body in good running condition. We provide personalized care tailored to support your unique healthcare needs. This is necessary to promote wellness and longevity. If you desire to stay on top of your health, yearly wellness exams are absolutely necessary, no excuses.

The following is a common list of health problems we can help you with:

Diabetes– proper management of diabetes is important to avoid complications of this disease, such as vision loss and renal failure.

Digestive Problems– ulcers, heartburn and bowel issues such as constipation can affect men of any age. We can also screen for colon cancer utilizing third party testing, if you qualify.

Heart Health– symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations (sensation of the heart racing or skipping), swelling of the legs and feet and chest pain should be assessed immediately by your health care provider, as they may be a sign of serious heart problems.

High Blood Pressure– high blood pressure is known as “the silent killer” because it rarely causes symptoms. Management of blood pressure is important in prevention of heart attack and stroke.

High Cholesterol– cholesterol can be managed by a combination of diet, exercise and medication when necessary.

Low Testosterone– Low testosterone, also known as hypogonadism, is a condition where the body produces insufficient levels of the male hormone testosterone. This can be caused by aging, certain medical conditions (e.g., testicular cancer, pituitary disorders), medications (e.g., opioids, corticosteroids), and lifestyle factors.

Mental Health– depression is common in men, although men may be more reluctant to admit that they are depressed. Depression is a treatable condition.

Prostate Cancer Screening– most men don’t think much about the health of their prostate until it causes problems. As men age, the prostate grows. Sometimes the prostate grows large enough to exert pressure on the urethra. Enlargement of the prostate is known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Cancer of the prostate gland can cause many of the same symptoms as BPH, making it difficult to differentiate between the two. One way of detecting prostate cancer is to do a blood test called a PSA test.

Sleep Disorders– sleep apnea and insomnia are common sleep disorders in men

Thyroid Disease– thyroid disease can cause a wide variety of symptoms, depending on whether the thyroid gland is producing too much or too little hormone.
